One of the most successful actresses in Tollywood, Rituparna Sengupta set foot in Bollywood with Main Meri Patni Aur Woh a film that not many would choose as their debut vehicle. But, Rituparna is not one to settle for the run-of-the-mill films. Though the film did not exactly strike gold at the box office, she soon impressed all with her immense talent, not to mention her beauty and charm.
The actress has recently signed a Warner Bros film titled,
SRK. Such is the mystery surrounding the film that no one knows whether it has anything to do with the King Khan at all! On being asked about it, Rituparna says diplomatically, It is a marketing strategy. That is all that I am allowed to reveal at the moment. We have shot for the film in Munnar, Kerala and, let me tell you, it is really interesting.
Apart from this, Rituparna is also a part of Dil Ke Armaan, which she is doing with Kay Kay Menon and Divya Dutta. The film is about surrogate motherhood. Two more films you will see me in are Sahab Chai Paani with Sonu Sood and Love Khichdi with Randeep Hooda. He plays a chef in the film and there are seven ladies, and it is about how he falls for all of them one by one, informs Rituparna.
Rituparna is one actress who believes in the joy of giving, and acknowledges that only when you give do you get. Not surprisingly, she is into social work and devotes a lot of her time to Thalassaemia patients and orphanages. And, even her films are a reflection of her social commitment. Take, for instance, Mittal v/s Mittal which is about marital abuse. There is this supermodel who marries a business tycoon and problems start creeping in after they get married. I am playing a strong character who fights for herself. There is high intensity courtroom drama in the film and a lot of details that are not known to women are shown. The film will release in a couple of months and I have a beautiful role in it, muses Rituparna.
A true-blue Bengali to the core (she is an ardent fan of Rabindranath Tagore), Rituparna takes her devotion to the Nobel Laureate quite seriously. She has her own dance troupe and performs on the compositions of Tagore, as well as creates dance dramas as a tribute to the great poet.
Try to prod her about her personal life, and youll find yourself against the wall. She makes it amply clear that she will discuss only her professional life. Period. A woman of substance and a woman of many roles thats Rituparna for you.
